Do Eyelashes Shed? YEP!
Don’t panic! At The Aye Lash, we love talking all things lashes. And yes, just like the hair all over your body, your eyelashes have a natural lifecycle.
Eyelashes grow, rest, and eventually shed in a cycle that can last between five to eleven weeks. This cycle is split into three phases:
1. Anagen (Growth) Phase: This is when the eyelashes are actively growing.
2. Catagen (Transition) Phase: Growth stops, and the follicle begins to shrink.
3. Telogen (Resting) Phase: The final phase, where the lashes rest in the follicle until they naturally fall out.
This means your eyelashes are continuously going through these phases, preventing all your lashes from falling out at once. It means each lash is on its own timeline, singing its own song. As an eyelash studio, we certainly notice when our clients are losing more lashes and welcoming more baby hairs in the anagen (growth) phase.
In addition to this there is a thing called ‘Eyelash Shedding Season’ - WTF? Aye, it’s a thing. You might notice that your eyelashes tend to shed more during certain times of the year, particularly during Spring and Autumn. This is perfectly normal and can be down to the changes in the amount of daylight and perhaps even shifts in your hormones due to the season. This increased shedding is a natural response to these environmental changes and helps renew the lashes for healthier growth.
Completely normal, so don’t panic! We have got you.
